Going Mac. Need help finding audio units(Legally)

Post by hydrogen »

ok... so I'm over my pc. Its a little old "IBM Lenovo t60." and its been good for a couple years. But I've had enough of it.

I want to try macintosh for my next purchase. Will probably be getting a new macbook pro at 2.8 ghz. But I'm really nervous about vst crossover and replacing them with audio units.

Most of the stuff that I've purchased runs both mac and pc.(Reason, Live, Microtoniq, etc.) But I'm missing a few key things and need replacement.

*Need Mixing Tools, eq's, compressors, enhancers (Was using Bootsy Plugins, and some others)
*Need replacement for Synth1. So far I have linplug alpha, but still miss the synth 1 quirkiness.
*Need nice bitcrusher and tape emulation (Using jb_timemachine and jb_Ferox)

I was also thinking about picking up Reason Record or logic for mixdowns and maybe just use that as a suite... but I still want some of those effects while I'm in the track creation stage.

I would prefer freeware or low cost tools at a maximum value. Your help would be much appreciated.

Also, if you have any other resources other than KVRAudio, that would be kind too.

nearly all mixing tools in Logic are ace!

you could pick up Rumblence:Zoyd which is a free synth by Urs Heckmann but don't know if its that what you're looking for!

awesome! thanks guys for the synth recommendations. Now what about mixing tools? eq, compression?

Should I go with something like sonalksys? or are there other good value plugins?

You maybe should really consider to give Logic a go... all mixing tools are incredible!

Sonalksis is a good choice but I heard they lost a bit of their beauty - cant confirm this!

That Voxengo Compressor should be a great one too and I think it's free

I'd highly recommend giving a go @ all the TAL-Audio plugins which are free and ace, as well as the Stillwell plugs which you can try for a long time.

Then if you're gonna use Logic, I'd say you're already pretty much set there.
