How to best apply hardware controllers in Ableton...?

Post by Aidan_Day »

I'm just looking for some general input as to how people integrate controllers in their Ableton setups...I've been producing for 5 years (2-3 in Ableton) so I'm pretty production-literate, but I might not be thinking outside-the-box in terms of Ableton's uniqueness...

My assumptions are:

1) that faders will typically be hardwired to mixer faders in Ableton

2) rotary encoders/knobs will typically control a variety of other settings, especially filter cutoffs/resonance/depth etc, effect parameters, delay amounts, mixer sends, etc...

3) push-buttons will toggle through certain kinds of other proprietary synth parameters (filter types, wave types) and also toggle things on/off (effects and sequences?)

Do most of you use many "pages" / templates as you move through a set or try to think of 1 all-purpose page with a mix of controls which will remain with you for the whole set?

Anything else?

(I sequence about 50%-audio 50%-MIDI/VST in Ableton...I think a lot of people try to go more audio "live" for stability...I've been pretty stable so far... )

Anyway Thanks...
