toss some lfo on the kick , sync'd at 1 and 1/2 , that will give that "sucking" sound.

i didn't listen to the sample tho so ... yeah

I have to agree with some of the posts here. This is a pretty bog-standard 808 kick, just with a prominent clicky attack.

Go over to http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/tape808.html and buy this great 808 sample set and then go through the kick samples. Add some EQ in the upper frequencies to get the click part. You might also need to either select the sample that's the right length (not too long and not too short) to get the right amount of bassy oomph. Or just use a longer sample and abbreviate the kick with an envelope. Cheers.

OK, first off I appreciate the help, but I'm not even coming close to replicating that kick with a straight up 808 kick sample. I uploaded the one I used, so I challenge anyone to give it a go and see what you come up with!!!
Hopefully the sample is workable.

The difference to me here is actually where the sample starts on the kick... if you analyze it the first kick the sine wave starts on the top... the second kick you posted starts in the center. if you adjust the offset you'll get that click.

couldn't really figure out what to do after that... i found once i did that the new kick sounded better than the original.
