A Noob DJ Question about this sick effect

In this video, how do you get that effect that starts at 5:18 and goes till 6:00?? I think it's sick, you can make your own buildup - just how's it done?? I'm stumped. What effects are even used.

Do you have the song on a loop, how does the effect only change the highs, it sounds like the drums aren't affected at all .. And then how do you change the sound of it from 5:50-6:00 ... Basically, just step by step, HOW THE F DO YOU DO THAT?!? haha.. I'm such a noob, but whatever, I gotta learn. And so far, this is one effect I can't figure out and I think it's f'n awesome.

I know that they were using some pioneer mixer, so no computer effects or anything.

Actually it sounds like Gnuk, but a sick remix of it. I don't know, I can't tell these things anymore.
