how did you start listening to minimal music?

Post by plaster »

i'm really interrested to know how some of you started to listen to minimal?

my story goes way back in '97 when i was watching a lot of viva zwei, where they had this program with dj's and vj's playing all nighters, so one day dirk diggler hosted a show which was amazing. after that, nothing was like it used to be.

people that are guilty for my tastes:

charlotte roche
rocco clein
ill-young kim
tanja mairhofer

shows were:

early 2002 i got a bunch of Sender records from someone (almost all of them up to then), i fell in love with the sound immediately although i couldn't mix them with the techno records i had (too slow  ), i started exploring all the other labels... and the rest is history

too bad the sender sound today is so boring, i haven't bought a sender in ages, trapez on the other hand was i think the second label i discovered... and i still adore almost every release up to date 8)

edit: in fact it was much earlier, when i discovered this cd, one of the first mix-cd's i bought: http://www.discogs.com/release/75030
... we only didn't call it mnml yet back then

the very first electronic music cd i had was this one:
http://www.discogs.com/release/23179
given to me by my uncle. i didn't pay that much attention to it. i really didn't like it very much. it stayed in my room forgotten for some years...
it was around 1999 or so i think i discovered that richie hawtin decks, efx & 909 cd, and at the same time i discovered lo-fi stereo label, perlon and ricardo villalobos. also force inc. mille plateaux etc... vladislav delay/luomo. curiosity made me find related artists and releases. napster helped me in my early days to find hot music (there are not good record stores in my town) ever since i have bought and downloaded a lot of music 8)
