I'm in search of a good field recorder . it should be small and not too expensive..
any recommendations?

zoom h4 is cheap in japan, it's perfect, i'd say

fck I wish I could afford one. I have a fifty foot mic cable I drag around the house from my pc but Id love to be able to go outside and other places and record sounds.

you should be able to get outside with a cable that long.

@ victor, minidisk recorders are supposed to be decent quality (not 100% sure though) and you can pick them up on ebay pretty cheaply.
