You all know that nowadays it's almost necessary to spend loads of time sitting in front your computer to compose and polish your music stuff. I personally found that such intense mental and insufficient physical activity influence my health in a poor way... From some kind of mind and ear fatigue because of listening your stuff hundreds of times to more corporal stuff like crooked spine, fat belly and even some cardiovascular problems due to constantly squeezed ass vessels...
I guess it's a quite intimate subject, but, nevertheless, do you have any issues with your health because of music-making passion/career? How do you manage to prevent/relief them?
music production and health
not sure exactly about the symptoms but if you are worried about your health, stop what you're doing for a while and speak to a doctor.
i personally find if i exercise regular and eat reasonably well i feel sharper mentally, in turn this makes doing everything else way easier
also if you're sitting still for long periods of time, get up and have a wee wander about every so often, even if it's to the window to stare out for a while, you'll probably find that some ideas will just come to you whilst your minds not concentrating on the thing you've staring at for the last couple of hours (well i do anyway ). i apply this to everything, work, study, music...

i am a computer...
well basically i'm constantly using one. I have different setups... at work i have a sitting situation, in my studio i'm standing... I have experienced on and off carpal tunnel issues, neck/shoulder issues, back pain, etc... but the truth is during any occupation you'll see deteriation of the human body.
I've been doing Yoga on and off for many years since I was 10. Which is fairly effective. But never experienced strong physical results from it.
Someone recommended this book to me a couple years ago and changed my opinion on things...

This may sound a bit infomercialish... but it is my experience.
I remember buying the book and was experience extreme pain in my lower back, neck and shoulders. I had to take a flight to S.F. carrying all my gear and was almost in tears when i got off the plane.... After a restless nights sleep I started doing the exercises. The first day was awesome, I felt like they had mad a dramatic difference in my lower back. After day two i felt like I had regenerated a new body, I could stand up straight... the pain in my neck and shoulders and disappeared and it was actually comfortable carrying all my gear.
The routine can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. I do it once every other day to keep my body inline. The writing is inspiring and will get you motivated.

Read up a little bit on correct posture and spend some money on a good desk, fully adjustable chair, and a footrest. I get really fidgety if I'm not comfortable, but after I bought a nice Aeron chair I find myself sitting for longer periods of time without getting up.
I try to hit up the gym 5-6 times a week. Even a short 30 min workout will keep my mind and body refreshed and active, and prevent the cardiovascular problems and fat belly. I hear you on the mental stress, though. If it's really affecting you that much, take a break from music for a couple days -- go out and take a walk, or spend a night out with friends.

I constantly get back pain. I sit all day and then when I get home I sit again. If it wasn't winter, I'd be doing cycling too as I do that for exercise. Corect posture is uncomfortable so I slouch a lot in my chair and I spin around a lot too, but seriously, I have had more pain from sitting that anything else.
Ok, just for the statistics, on the average I spend 8-9 hours a day at my computer... At my work, doing some non-musical stuff, and at home, making music. After 8 years I got this...
How much time do you consider normal before taking a rest?
Hmm... and we should start a thread about efficiency of work... Like how much time do you spend on a track and how to optimize this process...
