what software (or combination) do you use to change the sound of your loops/samples other than cutting them up etc?
Other than Kontakt, ive been tweaking the fck out of the PSP84 but it starts to sound a bit 'samey' after a while.
I'd like to take a drum loop for instance and turn it into something completely different
Sound mangling
Ableton Live ...
Put some FXs on the channel, and automate the hell out of them. Also unlink the clip automation to have different length of automation loops. I'd also recommend playing with the grain delay and the various grain settings. also automating the redux can yield some very interesting results.

...its kind of hard to control but.
1)take a (eg wav) file and open it with notepad
2)you get a stream of symbols and stuff.
3)cut, copy paste etc some of the data and then save it.
4)open them in audacity as .raw format
5)it sounds different, and mangled
also if you have time (and photoshop) you can also save picutres as .raw data and open them in audacity with interesting results.
its a bit hit and miss but you can get some amazing stuff out of it. there are a few rules that affect what you hear but your best finding them out for yourself.

this is one of my favourite tricks, its a feature on most samplers. put in ur loop(i use battery) and then there is a button on it called reverse, click it and it reverses the loop and makes it sound mental. Also another trick u should take on board. Get ur loop and on samplers there is another feature on it called "pitch" try pitching down the drum loop to around 5 notes this will give the loop a lower pitch sound and also it will now be out of time to ur 4X4 kick ( a bit like ur mixing) giving it that live drummer feel.

I do alot of stuff with impulse. Most of the time, all I need to change is the transpose and the freq to get totaly new sounds.
