Vocal Samples for Production

Post by jonasdhp »

Hi all. I've been producing for about a year now, and am looking to get into using and manipulating various types of vocal samples, speech samples etc. But - I can't find any!

A good example of what i'm looking for is the vocal stuff villalobos uses on his 3x12 inch on Sei es drum (although with him it may just as well be recorded from scratch). Everything from a cappella recordings of folk songs to stadium sing-alongs to topicless conversation-recordings. Can anyone tell me where i can find any of these things? Obviously a good place to start is vintage vinyl, but i find it's hard to come across many a capella recordings, which is what i'm looking for...

Any help would be much appreciated!

not my scene so much but...

record your own (either from your voice or maybe field record somoeone else's)
youtube (bad quality but chucked though a load of effects you could have something useable)
films
a capella's (hip hop records quite often have these on a b side, and sometimes much older records are released as box sets with individual parts from sessions: for example 'pet sounds' by the beach boys)

loads of places!

thanks for the replies... i tried the google vocal samples thing for a while but i just struggled to find anything interesting. Sampling film dialogue is a good idea though, i'll look into it...

Stop looking for ready-to-go samples from sample libraries and do a bit of digging, everything said above should yeild tons of material.

You can get tons of audio books, speeches and DVD / CD interviews from your local library too. I don't know what libraries are like in Denmark but I would have thought they'd be similar worldwide.

There's also some fantastic sampling material on a lot of computer games.
