Following on from our riotous 1st night at our new home, The Cavern Club, with Chicago's own Larry Heard, T-Funkshun are proud to present one of Detroit's true superstars, DJ Rolando. As well as being a former member of Techno's Wu Tang, The Underground Resistance, Rolando is probably best known for one of the biggest Techno records of the decade. Released over 5 years ago, the anthemic Knights of the Jaguar has been a fixture in the boxes of DJs as diverse as Jeff Mills to Gilles Peterson ever since. Before Jaguar, however, Rolando's introduction to the Techno world (outside his native Detroit at least) came in the form of 1999's now legendary Aztec Mystic Mix. His skills as a DJ are unsurpassed and have taken him across the globe to play to rapturous crowds in the worlds best clubs. As anyone who has seen him play before will tell you, DJ Rolando's return to Liverpool on September 23rd will rock The Cavern to the core of it's rather deep foundations!
He'll be flanked on the night by T-funkshun's very own Motor City controller, Scott McGill, who has represented Detroit's musicology over in the UK for so long, despite never making it anywhere geographically near the home of Ford, unless you count Speke Boulervard's car-plant.

The Larry Heard night will take some beating, but with the usual electric atmosphere in place, and regular friendly crowd should make this one close contender.

What The Press Say About T-Funkshun

The Guardian

"Ravers in the north-west have a real treat in store next weekend. Next Saturday sees the annual D-Percussion free festival entertaining some 15,000 people across seven stages in Manchester, and for several keen enthusiasts Friday's T-Funkshun in Liverpool is becoming something of a warm-up party. The crew may offer a somewhat serious playlist of proper, Detroit emanating techno and deep house, but their parties, which have been flitting from venue to venue for years now, are always marked by their warm, welcoming atmosphere. Joining resident Scott McGill on the night is vintage deep house originator Larry Heard. With a back catalogue virtually unrivalled in either extent or importance (see Distant Planet, Stars, Washing Machine, Can You Feel It and dance LPs Another Side and Amnesia), the man's legendary status as a producer is assured. And after continuous European engagements he has proven to be a more than adequate entertainer on the decks as well.

"Subtle promotion fuelled a whispering excitement about the second instalment of T-Funksun’s Summer Madness parties. Having backpacked around Liverpool’s club venues for the past twelve months, T-Funkshun have now taken up residence at the city’s best-known nightspot, the fabled Cavern Club on Matthew Street. And what better way to celebrate than to throw an unforgettable house-warming party at a time when other clubs are hibernating in readiness for September’s student shenanigans?

Invited to be musical selector was Chicago-born Larry Heard AKA Mr. Fingers. Describing his music as “unique sounds for unique individuals,” Larry felt right at home with the batty but beautiful patrons of T-Funkshun, weaving together an engrossing selection of dance music gems, spanning the electronic intensity of Sydenham and Ferrer’s Sandcastles and the hypnotic depth of DJ Gregory’s Attend 1. What really made this night sparkle was the blissfully eccentric crowd, a hearty mixture of home-grown Scousers and warmly-welcomed visitors from our neighbouring cities. A gathering of restless souls, smiling faces and forgotten friends, lost in the spaced-out rhythms and glowing ambience of Larry Heard’s musical selections.

History was made on August 5th, as Heard was invited to be the first dance music artist to add his name to the Cavern’s remarkable wall, built from over 1,800 individually etched bricks, remembering the artists who’ve performed on its honoured stage. A fitting gesture for an artist whose musical ventures date the conception of house music and whose warm, electronic textures continue to bring jazz sophistication to the synthetic instrumentation of dance music.

:: Gavin Moruda – August 2005"
