Other than their sheer volume, are there any arguments for using PA cabs in producing? I was looking at a pair of MACKIE SRM350's, but I really think I need something like KRK nearfield monitors.
apples to oranges?
PA cabinets - are they of any use in producing?
yeah totally unnecessary for production. i think that you would not get the even, neutral sort of sound you are looking for with monitors from a PA cause many of them have very certain sounds, like say a home stereo might. but they would obviously be handy to have around for parties etc.
anyway to summarise...no, spend the money on good monitors instead.

friendly word of advice dubgil, you dont need pa's unless there's a party. My ears crackle alot now even when i blink and sh!t, went to a specialist and everything, id my pa's when i was about 17 now 21 and ive them put in the attic with the last year. Truth is theres no second chaces with your hearing and if you have them you will turn them up...Prob way off topic but if your serious about music their a bad idea and thats just my opinion
