Deep House Mix: The Grass Is Always Greener (NEW VERSION!)

Post by sma »

Well, this is kind of a follow up to "I Am Always Reminded Of You", the first mix I did using Ableton Live a few weeks back. So "The Grass Is Always Greener" reverses the vibe of "I Am Always Reminded Of You" by having the dancy tracks in the first half, whereas the more laid-back, cuddly tunes can be found in the second half. Style is basically house, with a percussive twist in the first half and a more classic deep groove in the second half. Mix can be downloaded here (Sendspace, Rapidshare).

Tracklist is as follows:

01 Brothers' Vibe, Feelin' House (Raw Mix) (Mixx Records)
02 Robert Dietz, Lost Horizon (Cécille Numbers)
03 DJ Koze, I Want To Sleep (International Records Recordings)
04 Oleg Poliakov, Midnight Vultures (Circus Company)
05 Johnny D, Riddim Mood (Oslo)
06 Mr G, U Askin? (REKIDS)
07 Robert Dietz, Backseat (Cécille Numbers)
08 Herb LF & Matt Flores, City Rush Boogie Dub (Farside)
09 Niggemann & Poppcke, L'Aurora (Agnès Chicago Take) (Moonpool)
10 Sety, Mogane (Circus Company)
11 Wareika, Be Real (Connaisseur)
12 A Made Up Sound, Late Drive (Philpot)
13 Baaz, Just (Sthlmaudio)
14 Slowhouse, One (B2) (Slowhouse)
15 Norm Talley, Exodus (Beatdown Brothers Remix) (Deep Vibes)
16 Nekes, Cristal (Oslo)
17 Jus-Ed, Sumthin' Fresh (Underground Quality)
18 Chugga, Theme For The Buck Rogers Light Rope Dance (Deep Space Probe Remix By Terre Thaemlitz) (Mule Electronic)
19 Prosumer & Murat Tepeli, Solid Mind (Ostgut Ton)

Feedback is as always very appreciated. Enjoy the music! :-)

quite liked it. The first 1/2 hour was rather good, but I felt it lost track a little at the end. I'm no expert, but I felt that a couple of records were perhaps rushed in a bit early. The Niggerman (sic...) track for example, it's within the theme of the mix, but it could have waited longer. Just my own humble opinion, but I thought the first half was very well constructed. Good stuff.

Hehe, brownlow, very good point you made! I actually thought about recording the whole mix again because of the Niggemann track as well as the Herb LF track cause I also felt they were rushed a bit. So, I am a bit angry bout that myself.

Well, I actually don't know what it was that made me rush in these two track that fast, cause I immediately noticed it when I listened to the recording for the first time. But hey: as this was so obvious, I'll probably never do it again. So something good came out of it in the end. ;-)

It's not so obvious when you're in the moment, but I agree, it's certainly a good way to learn. Trail and error and whatnot. :)
