Ok so i just got contacted by this company that does loops librairies and sample CDs. They offered me a shitload of money to produce a full CD of sounds, loops and fx. I was just on the verge of saying yes when i realised that if i do this, there will then be loads of music, from good to bad with my sounds.
I really think that i would get fed up of my own stuff at one point if I get to hear it out there...
Your thoughts?
Selling my music?
do it, how is anyone gonna come up with a pheek song? nobody but pheek
i know some graphic designers that really rely on clip art and pre made whatever, and sure some of the textures are great and the vector images are "cool", but they wont have the context right ever and wont think too much further than whats handed to them, so i tihnk your safe. take the money and run.

If it were me I'd probably do it. It seems like it can be hard to make money in this game and that could be a nice opportunity to do something creative and get paid for it.
For me actually, if I was very talented at making sounds, I think making them more readily available would push me to work harder to do something different with the new sounds I develop for own own music.
It could certainly be annoying for your tools to be uncreatively abused, but at least if you hear your sounds in bad music you'd feel happy about having been in someway financed by it, rather than just feeling annoyed about how bad it is.
As mlexicon says though, even if you do make make some of your tools publicly available, you're still gonna be the only person that can make your music.

Well you gotta think of it this way. I can listen to your tracks and recreate 95 percent of your instruments and completelly copy your track. But I wont.
And even if I learned how to make all the sounds in your past releases my next song would probably still not equal your next song talent wise or style wise.
If pheek didnt make it it isnt pheeks music. And most people that use samples without manipulating them in some way are not getting released anyways so youd never hear it.
More than likelly youll notice that some of your sounds are used in interesting ways that might even inspire you.
Plus alot of money is a good thing.

my vote goes to "dont do it". you will commercialise the sound. how many more shitty releases that werent actually produced by the 'artist' do we need?
plus, theres a big chance of you attracting some hate towards yourself from the scene... - "oh its another boring track with the sounds from that pheek cd..."

nah, do it. there are loads of drum samples from artists around and no one resents those artists. And i dont think there is an increase in music that sounds like them. people are gonna copy artists anyway, if its a good amount of money that could be reinvested and make you feel more comfortable....do it. unless you can afford to be principled about it of course.
i can see your dilemma mate, but i agree with most of the others, just go for it. plough the money back in and upgrade your studio set-up.
personally i'm against sample CD's, i think it's an unbelievably lame way to make music, but it probably also helps alot of people get a start in production.
i can see SK's point of view also, so its a hard one.
