[UK] rungrooves: 28.06.08 Alton Miller (Detroit) + J Junker

Post by run »

run are proud to present a new twist to our winding little trip through electronic music with rungrooves: a little offshoot delving into the deeper side of techno and house music with the focus firmly fixed on basslines & rhythms - the groove.

To help mark the occasion we have the legend that is Alton Miller - a man with some serious musical history. From running clubs in detroit (namely the legendary Music Institute ) to releasing a huge range of music on some of the planets dopest and most respected record labels ( KDJ, Planet E, Moods & Grooves, Trackmode, Peacefrog, Mahogani Music, Guidance etc etc) to international dj sets - this man breathes House Music and he’ll be playing an exclusive UK date for us as he winds up his European tour. For the full bio click here

Our second guest for the evening is Neurhythmics head honcho and a very familiar face to Smallfish regulars: Juergen Junker. As well as running his label & doing stints behind the counter at the mighty fine Smallfish, Juergen has also been a resident at LOST (in the Purple area) & SPACEBASE, and has played at clubs like Plastic People, 93Feet East, and parties like Hoxton Pimps, Sud, and LaserMagnetic. Expect some disco, house, his own edits and tracks, with a healthy dose of Chicago’s jack.

This is designed to be a more intimate and relaxed event so we'll be starting & finishing earlier than usual but that doesn't mean we wont be partying as hard - so come down and join us for an evening of deep deep house grooves.

Alton Miller(Moods & Grooves / Peacefrog / Planet E / Yore / KMS / Trackmode Records - Detroit)
Juergen Junker (Neurhythmics / Smallfish)

FYI - a full bio and discography of Alton Miller and info on his latest release on the wonderful Yore record label:

www.yore-records.com/008.php

It was once said that art is an expression of life. The way in which we choose to view it, hear it, dance to it, speak it and write about it is the passion that drives an artist to create. Alton comes to the world painting a musical canvas. Molded, shaped and reared on Stevie Wonder, Santana, Parliament Funkadelic and the Philadelphia sound, he grew to be an avid clubber. On a frenzied tour of clubs in North America Alton began honing his skills under the electrifying energies of Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan and Timmy Regisford. Alton, along with his friends, set out to recreate the energy and atmosphere they experienced in the clubs and opened the world renowned dance club The Music Institute.

The Music Institute was one of the epicenters of the underground House Movement where Alton and Chez Damier shared a residency on Saturday nights helping to create the musical volcano that erupted worldwide in 1988. Alton’s affinities for rhythms inspired him to take up conga drumming, leading to an accompaniment for the locally based Katherine Dunham Dance Company. Drumming and its connections to rhythms of all music have proven to be influential to his musical growth.

In 1991 Alton recorded his first release “Pleasure Baby” for Serious Grooves/KMS Records. His second release, “I Like Having You” was a debut for his vocal talents. “Dusk” was recorded under the pseudonym Aphrodisiac and was critically acclaimed on both European and North American charts. Since his early recordings Alton has amassed worldwide success and exposure as a House music producer / dj.

Alton has recorded and released music for some of the best independent labels in the industry. His third studio album released spring of 2007 has garnered him a nominee for album of the year award in New Zealand. Guidance Recordings and BPM Records were plateaus for Alton’s inner growth as a musician and songwriter / producer. Past and recent releases include recordings for Planet E, King Street/Nitegrooves, Trackmode Records, Moods and Grooves and KDJ. Alton teamed up with vocalist / playwrite Dorothea Sharon on their debut single “Glory” for the Japanese label Life Line Records. In September 2003, Alton debuted on Peacefrog, with his first album “Stories from Bohemia”.

Alton’s remix credits to date include: Sean Deason’s “Allegory Metaphor” on Intuit-Solar, Jacob Desvarieux’s “An Di Adie” on Distance, Kenny Carvel’s “Rise” featuring the late John Redmond on Music 101 and Lorca’s “I Cry” featuring Mandel Tuner on F-com and Amp Fiddler’s “Move On” on City Boy music.

From 1989 to present Alton has toured Canada, Chile, England, France, Japan, Switzerland and various other countries defining House music as he has experienced and lives it. His intimate connection with the drums and varied African influenced rhythms result in compositions that move people physically and emotionally. Hearing Alton dj defines what House music is all about!
