lame thing imo.
Drop the idea of becoming someone else, because you are already a masterpiece.

^^

Actually, I felt the same way until I read their privacy policy. It's been a very useful tool for me for networking and finding out about obscure artists that haven't got much exposure outside their immediate geographic vicinity. Beyond that, the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folksonomy involved in the tagging and cross referencing of users by tastes allows for a simple, and easy means to scan all the artists working in a specific field outside of the confines of music journalism & promotion. It's democratic baby..

They may be hocking adsense and CD's by linkthroughs.. but as an exploratory tool the pros far outweigh the cons. This is far more interesting to me than 95% of the music press out there, because it's participatory and user defined.

(I've also made lots of good soulseek contacts through it... ;) )

This is a great tool for any music fan.

It's not about letting people know what you listen to, it's more what you gain from it... discovering music, etc. Hell, you don't even have to tell people who you are, use it with a fake name or something. It's definitely cool though.

You might get a lot more out of it if you're into/searching for weird listening music as opposed to dancefloor stuff though..

it's a computer/program telling you who you are and what you should be doing/listening next...

Replace "telling you who you are" with "keeping track of your listening habits" and "what you should be doing/listening to" with "letting you know what other people with similiar taste in music enjoy" and you are bang on. Good work.

i barely have the time to listen to what i download or purchase, coz it's
tons & tons of music that i've burnt on dvds & still haven't listened to.
so actually it'd be useless if i was "told" what to listen to.
about the new artists discovering, i can barely keep up with that too
(almost 40-50% of my incoming music is from artists i hadn't heard b4).

so i reckon this seems like a tool for the clueless people...
i can remember when the air was clean and sex was dirty.
