Very cool! I missed that!

I'll definitely be going through all 4 tubes in case the one I posted is missing some parts. I wish I could understand what Sven & the founder of Tresor were saying in the beginning sections.

Just watched 'em. Unfortunately, those tube clips leave out all of the Europe footage in pts. 1 & 2 of the documentary.

Here's part2...

In 1996 people talked about techno as it would be part of the future; futuristic music. Now it's retro music, it's become a thing of the past, a thing you look back to. What happened to the futuristic thought in techno? Where did it go?

you're talking about a style called "futurism" which was big before the millenium. it wasnt just techno, other genres incorporated futurism elements. what happened was, the future finally showed up, we're in the future now, and now the music doesn't fit. it only worked in the past when we looked forward to the future. now that we're here it doesn't have the same appeal.

No I'm not talking about futurism in general. That has been around most of the 20th century, but about the specific thought that techno would grow bigger and more important and become a dominant form in future modern pop culture. Which obviously didn't happen. Right now it's pretty much falling apart, the crowd growing older any year, few new people joining the show. Techno has become a retro music of old peopledesperately trying to hold the status quo. No-one's looking to the future.

You can also see that techno has today absolutely nothing to do anymore with science fiction, and that used to be completely different in the early 90s. You don't find this anymore today.
