Drums in Operator

Post by Toob »

Yesterday I went to an Ableton Live workshop at Doornroosje, Nijmegen (NL) and some guys were creating drums with Operator. They were creating a kick, a snare and hihats. I paid attention to what they exactly did, but it all went a little too fast for me. I've searched the forum and googled the internet, but I didn't find any Operator specific. I know there are some (low quality) kick tutorials available at Youtube, but the snare and the hihats are not covered. Do you guys know how to create drums (and maybe other freaky sounds) in Operator?

this might help...

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fm+synthesis

other than that think about what types of sounds you are making... there is several posts on here about synthesizing your own drums.

Really learn a little bit about how synthesizer works and then think about what types of elements you can use to synthesize a sound...

For example, a high hat is going to have a lot of white noise. So use a white noise osc. If you want more tone, apply a filter with some resonance. If you desire more tone maybe add some sine waves on top and modulate them together.

There are so many possibilities... but its best to start with the basics. then maybe even analyze some presets and experiment.

Good luck.
