i kno this probbaly comes up a lot
but whats the best way to make ur kick and bassline sound nice together?
compress together/apart?
sidechain?
eq?
i ust made a track where my kick and bline r compressed together. i dont normally do it. it sounds quite nice, its sidechained aswel, the bline sort of bounces off the kick, but u lose a lot of the kicks characteristics. just becomes a sort of thump rather than havin a click on it
obviously its different for every track n wotever
Bassline and kick
sidechain, if you want to have the sidechain effect or if the bass and kick play at the same time and clash in frequencies.
mono bass, mono kick.
you could create a bus channel and send the kick and the bassline there, eq the kick and bass seperately and put a lowpass filter on the bus channel to , in a way glue them together.
compressing the bus channel is also good too, but with moderation.
another option is to analyse the basslines freq range and the kick freq range,
see where they are,and eq them so that the bassline freqs connect (or flow over) into the kick's freqs. basicly dont isolate the bass and the kick too much from each other when eqing them seperately.
also try using waves maxbass on the bassline, it ads harmonics to the bass.
harmonic eq ing is also an efficient way to gell stuff.
reverb on bass could help too (not too much though!)
there has to be an interaction between the bass and the kick ( in terms of eqing)

sidechaining is the thing.
usually i compress the bass when kick comes in(if they are played same time ofcourse),but not all the bass's freqs-only the low ones <~150hz.depending on the settings of the compressor it produces a nice pumping' effect that helps the groove much![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
perfect tool for that is the waves c1 sc compressor.

why do u think so?s.k. wrote:if you synthesize both kick and bass to begin with, there will be no need to sidechain, compress, notch, or any of that ish. some ppl read too much sound engineer articles, which have nothing to do with techno production in general.

I mean if u synthesize them both in the same freq range, they'll start to interrupt one way or the other. I'd say if u want them sound good @ the same time, then eq the bass. If not so, then sidechain ducking compression on the bass.
