Btw, I use Fruity Loops and it is an awesome composer to be honest. It has a drum machine implented into the program and it has a very clear piano roll too. The mixer isn't that good, though. But it is pretty neat if you are not that engineer in mixing and like to go with what you hear.
You might need some VSTs, though. My tip is that know one or two VST synths like your own pockets and you will sound far better than if you use tens of expensive VSTs and just roll with the presets of them. Oh and you need effect VSTs too, there are many nice free basic VSTs on the internet, just Google for them. Fruity Loops has some preset effects in it too.
