soundcard, depends on how many in's and outs you need.

echo indigo i/o, if you got pcmcia slot for your laptop.
portable, good drivers, echo has always been quality to me.

speakers/monitors,

alesis active m1 mkII, next decent steps up are genelec, event 20/20... etc.

sampler:

I used to be hardware geek, but I'm glad I've gone software when it comes to samplers, saves time and kontakt (for example) has very nice sending filters, good routing ability.

if you still insist on a hardware sampler I've always been a fan of the filters in the emu's... emu 6400 ultra is the best sounding sampler I've ever had. very good modulation matrix.

Had a S6000 (akai), which has a bit of a better interface maybe, and looks cooler (veeeeeeeeeery important if you want to make minimal music!!! ;) ) ... sounds good too, don't like the lack of routing ability of it, atleast compared to the 6400. I'd go for the emu 6400 ultra, which is cheaper too.

there's a few different versions, the I/O version has, as its name suggestions - input and output. there's a dj version of the card with 2 outputs too... and the old indigo only had one output (+ a headphone output)

so it all depends on what you need... I think the I/O version is brilliant, even though I don't own it myself. (using a rme + multiface)
