the ER-1 mk1 or mk2 is the only viable electribe piece. imo.

cheap, efficient, funky.

in my experience, electribes are garbage.
normally i'd spend time and justify my saying so but they just really aren't worth the money at all. i'll leave it at that.

I have an er1. absolutely great piece of kit, certainly not garbage. Really fun to play, and great sounding.

However I got myself a vst drumsynth instead which does pretty much the same thing (microtonic), for a couple of reasons. The electribe only has 2 main outs (may be enough for you though), and recording automation on the er1 can be a little fiddly.

For a cheap funky hardware box though I can think of no better.

Me neither.

I currently have a friend's er1... the red one. He's selling it. But he said: "Ahhh just grab it have fun and bring it back once you're sick of it."

Now IF...IF the synth pads had attack controls, it would be a bomb. Really. I only use the four synth pads. I don't really like the hat and clap samples at all (909 sounds...it's ok...but y'know, that 909 sound....the cymbal sample is a revolting waste of rom though).

But the synth pads provide an endless pallet of metallic/fm-ish percs that are very rich.

Oh, and I made killer kicks drums by routing it through an oooold yamaha console of wich's preamps (when driven pretty hard) and eq's are simply magical, and my beloved dbx 119 compressor. The roundness of the bass.... oh lala! 808 kicks with a plus-value. Phew! The ring mod is cool too...

I haven't started playing around with the audio inputs...

I guess I already had with it the fun I'm supposed to get for twice it's aking price when new.

I'll bring it back when I get sick of it. I can't see that day coming soon.

i have used them all ... i currently have the emx-1 and it is better ... i want and esx 1 for sampling purposes...that will be my next purchase for sure... i really like what the tube does for the sound...something the er1 doesn't have...
