the MINIMAL backlash

Post by Robot Criminal »

don't know if this has been here b4 but shure fun to read :D
‘I remember being in a club with Vitalic a few years ago and we were totally drunk and there was some DJ, I can’t remember who, playing this very serious, intellectual minimal style and we thought it was very boring so we approached him and said ‘please play something interesting, play Daft Punk or Giorgio Moroder, whatever, play something funky’. I have to say the day after I felt a little guilty and thought I shouldn’t have done that but during the moment, it was very funny. Not for the DJ, but it was for us,’ he laughed.
I remember once when I was really drunk I kicked a wall on the way home - no-one saw, although I felt guilty for possibly waking someone up, but still, at the time, it was an incredible high.

Eventually those playing hard techno had to come down off their speed.

Amazing... minimal is not druggy music at all.. I go mad for a good tune and most of the time I'm completely sober so I dont know what the Hacker is on.. Maybe he should harass his mistress Kittin becuase she plays plenty minimal too.. Goddammit!

most electronica subgenres are linked to drugs in one way or another. trance is usually linked to ecstasy, acid house/tech to lsd, psy trance to mushrooms, I think minimal is linked to ketamine a lot, although I've never done it.

I actually totally agree with most of what he says at the beginning, and in particular:

"like electroclash several years ago, the much-hyped genre could soon be struggling"

"We just have to wait and see which artists will remain."

Music in general is a hype.. when rock and roll came out it was a hype, then it died too.. Its a natural progression of music.
The demise of mnml is inevitable.. here's the worst case scenario

1.Your little sister asks you if you have heard the new Trentemoeller

2.Booka shade wins MTV music award

3.Richie Hawtin on MTV cribs

4.Villalobos does ad for Police/Oakley

5.Sven Vath starts Cocoon clothing line

Do you consider T-shirts as part of a clothing-line?
