Hi all,
I'm looking for an opinion here…
Some time ago I entered the world of Rane Serato. I used it hooked up to my desktop pc for some time but now I ready to take the next (logical) step, buying a laptop. I know there are a lot of killermachines out there but I'm thinking about buying the following one, because I can get my hands on this one for a very nice price (799 EUR incl. 21% taxes):
HP NX7400
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500 (1,66 GHz 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB cache)
1024 MB DDR2 533 MHz
80 GB SATA II 5400 RPM Drive DVD +/- RW, CDRW, CD, DVD, DVD RAM
HP Premier Sound High Definition Audio 24-Bit DAC
3 x USB 2.0, VGA, Firewire (1394a)

Will this one do the job for me? Worth mentioning is that I will use an external audio-interface...
Thx in advance!

I have just bought a laptop for music production.
I've done quite a research and found out, that in general, everything with at least a core duo, 1gb ram and 5400rpm >=60GB hdd is sufficient. Assuming, of course, you use an external interface compatible with the system (e.g. not every machine has a PCMCIA-> this is relevant for Echo Indigo owners)
While the word is that 7200 rpm is needed, this is not actually true.
7200's produce more heat and therefore need more cooling, they are also less durable. Moreover, their strengths can be emulated by different virtual RAM utilities that allow you to keep particular amount of data (read: samples etc.) in your RAM directly. This will be faster than any hdd.
My config is 1.83 Core 2 Duo, 1GB, 120GB HDD, and I can certainly say that I'm more than satisfied with production capabilities of my machine.
Hope that helps

What is wrong with the quality of HP/Compaq? Most of HP, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo Thinkpad are probably made by Compal or Quanta anyway.4am wrote:uh? hp quality?oe wrote:for a hp which means a superior quality of assembly and partsRobot Criminal wrote:799 EUR
I'd hit it
I definitely would as well(!)
Most laptops will do what you want`em to do.
The specs and price sounds good.
