hello... Tuphan?
This is a magical tale about that Tuphan,
you might call him a trickster, a prankster,
or simply someone who likes to give everything a twist.
No one really has met him, well, not us anyway,
but the myth exists that he lives amongst us everyday,
pulling his tricky games whether or not you want to play.
Although Tuphan has been around for quite some time,
he shall remain the body and spirit of 8 in his infinite design.
You see, doing his mischief is the only way he knows well,
it is his gift as his papa and grandfather before him did tell.
Often people misconceive his impish ways,
but he really never meant to cause harm nor foul play.
He knows things happen as per action and result,
giving a little extra twist making time just slip into the right spell.
Monsters in your story book may like to eat your toys or spook you away,
Tuphan feeds on your curiosity and its most fun for him this way.
He is the one that creates those incidents we’re all quite familiar with and can relate,
like making your phone or door bell ring when no one is there.. or is there?
he plays tricks on your eyes when something isn’t there.. or is it not there?
Of course there are all those times he gotcha with distractions
and made you step into a puddle that splashed high,
Oh oh, how about those times when your toys don’t play right
but when you show them to your friends everything works fine?
He makes it all OK at the end and sometimes even better than it could,
but Tuphan is very confused why everyone gets frustrated even kind of rude.
Sometimes they would scream and yell, or even throw things at the wall..
“this makes no sense.. don’t they comprehend this could lead to a bad fall?”
This is very, very odd to Tuphan, and even a little annoying at times,
because no one has enjoyed his tricks for quite some time..
The days when Pookah, Loki, and Kokopelli used to come by to play are long gone,
even that silly Puck has disappeared since before that mid-summer dawn.
He is so dejected that his tricks do not please,
its like people just choose not to believe,
as if they haven’t a care
for his magical affair.
shhhhh..
so the story begins..
The crickets are chirping and the moon is white,
this is another fine night.
Tuphan wonders, in the moonlight
if this time his pranks will bite?
He follows the stars again and hides behind a tree.
“Methinks I will make those voices I hear coming along the path sing off key..
hmmm..? “
It seems instead of keeping quiet and embarrassed as they usually do,
they sang louder and louder with a new extra groove..?
“Shall I make apples fall from thus tree
so these creatures can slide and fall then roll around with me?
ehhh..? “
This is odd and quite unusual, says Tuphan to himself,
those wayward souls are laughing loudly and kicking up their feet?
They slipped but aren’t mad or shouting with biting teeth?
Ok.. ok..
Perchance shall I jump from around thus tree,
make meself extraordinarily huge and holler loud & deep..
“AHHHHHHH!!! GRRRRAWWW!! EEEEE-K!!”
they shout back stronger and louder, bigger and mean..
almost knocking Tuphan off his own feet.
What hath we here?
This is a blanket with holes for eyes making weird ghostly sway?
There is a two headed bear fellow in rhythm to an elephant beat?
And.. and.. those are a bunch of wabits, witches, pirates & elves
and many other very odd looking creatures
each appearing in their own technique?
What.. what does this all mean?
“Thou art not scared, or mad,
or running away from my special treat?”
It’s a world of joy and confusion for Tuphan as someone screams,
“Don’t you know, anything goes tonight it’s ALL HALLOW’S EVE!!”
With a captive audience surrounding him,
Tuphan begins to delve further into his magical play..
He made all haunted mansions spookier and all trick or treat candies taste extra sweet.
He made the wind whisper messages and spiders friendlier to your liking.
He made faces at you from the moon while changing all the clocks one twenty-fourth of a day.
They saw, they believed, it triggered their own imagination for fun games.
For quite some time now, this is the happiest Tuphan has been.
He spirals in joy amongst the stars and kids and continues to do his tricky thing,
from one house to the next and even the cities across the sea,
creating havoc and hilarity until sunrise, exhausted, he has the most wonderful dream..
Since that night Tuphan remains mostly unseen, continuing along his daily routine,
content to stay unknown or ignored, because he knows he can always look forward
to the next Halloween.
This tale is a reminder that there is a Tuphan in all of us,
it is in our inner map and only you could have the key..
