CONVEXTION – CONVEXTION - DOWNLOW

Image

Strictly limited to just 500 copies worldwide. Although he’s only had a handful of releases since his debut on the Detroit label Matrix in 1995, Convextion has remained a byword amongst the techno upper-crust for his brand of cerebral, passionate, fantastically textured music, and has garnered a cult following -- including DJ’s ranging from Derrick May, Carl Craig & Kenny Larkin to Danny Tenaglia & Swayzak. The evolution of his sound reflects his roving infatuation with great sonic architects: he was inspired early on by the Cocteau Twins, Joy Division and early 4AD releases, and later discovered the beauty of Derrick May’s strings, Virgo’s basslines, the Burrell Bros.’ grooves, Juan Atkins’ Deep Space vistas and the relentless pulse and mesmerizing echoes of Basic Channel (which catalyzed the Convextion sound after he heard it played by Paul Johnson one night at a club). A quick glance at Discogs shows that his releases are cherished and highly sought-after by both DJs and collectors, fetching high prices on eBay and at specialty vinyl shops. Long awaited and long overdue, his debut album contains 8 essential tracks recorded between 1996 and 2006.

Samples:

A1. Equanimity
A2. Solum Ferrum
B1. Desolate Hub
B2. Astrum
C1. Premiata
C2. Frozen Surface
D1. Sulphur Vent
D2. JMA020603

My thoughts are that £15.31 is far too much money for a 2X12.

This song was originally released as “Untitled” from the first Convextion release ever (MATRIX 1) and was featured on a dozen compilations championed by Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance and many others. One of the most sought after and beautifully composed works to come out of Detroit in the 90’s. Played by everyone across the globe, from luminaries such as Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, Kenny Larkin, Carl Craig, Chain Reaction Crew, DJ Rolando, Swayzak, James Pennington, and countless others. This release is one of the most important pieces to the puzzle that is; Detroit Techno. One of the most sensational releases in Detroit Techno history, a masterpiece.
