He did make a technotrack... lots of'm, if you don't Juan atkins, then you need a head check very quickly man!
for the record, the track missy elliot's thing is based on, is all-time classic Clear (1982), old skool electro from back in the day, combined with a sample of another old skool electro track called Body Rock (dont remember the artist)

Juan Atkins is one of my fav producers and it's simply very good that he finally gets some recognition, Juan Atkins is techno... it's that simple
as to his influence he had on minimal techno.... check his work as Infiniti and the Deep Space album

big ups for Magic Juan!!

dsat> i believe Juan's artistry is not questioned at any part of this thread.
Contemporary electronic music indeed owes a huge bit to him.

But what our friend Torque says about "a chance at recognition" Juan has
deserved makes no sense to me. Is Juan seeking recognition through
a big buck track he contributed in ? I don't know if he has been given
credit for it (haven't checked the details), but voting for a Missy Elliott rap
song for the sake of Juan's 'recognition' is kinda awkward. Seems like
"recognition" here translates into "$$$" and this sort of feels opposite to
what Juan and his Detroit fellas have preached for years & years.

just doesn't feel proper, that's all.
i can remember when the air was clean and sex was dirty.

most of us greatly respect the detroit techno fathers.
but i remember those guys back in the days were wearing masks, hiding
themselves from publicity, claiming to be THE 'real underground' posse.
so what's the deal now boys ?

still, recognition shouldn't be begged around boards and chatrooms.
i don't even think an artist like Juan needs that. it's just 'cheap'.
Since when was anybody from UR asking for recognition? Juan isn't in UR.

I'm not even sure what planet that comment came from. "Clear" was a multi million dollar record long before missy elliot touched it. Trust me, Juan has all the money he needs to live a comfortable life without any kind of grammy. This is a chance for techno to be recognised for once and you talk like the whole grammy thing should be an insult to techno. I don't know what kind of naive ideal you have in your head but the truth is that selling out can ONLY happen in the studio and Juan Atkins never even ever came close to selling out. For every track that has his name on it there are 3 that don't. He did all his music without a clothing style to back it up, cool german haircuts or any name at the time to call what he was making. He didn't wake up in the morning back then and think "I think i'll make some Techno today" because there was no such thing at the time. Juan is the real deal and deserves alot more than just some stupid statue to go on his shelf.

i'll stick to that and also comment that unfortunately many people seem not to know & respect that contribution
