what tipped me over to mac was specifically the (superior) ddr3 ram.
so there are hardware differences... (could not find a sony or other leading brand laptop which offered the same - +- 6 months ago - have not checked since then)

look into REAL info - not this bs mac vs pc thing.

also osx is different than windows 7, software is different etc (not so much for music production but more for general functionality - mail, ical etc)

also i prefer the design, and i had the funds to afford it.

all comes into play when deciding.

for the record - i do not have an iphone

;)

The best thing I ever did regarding computers was when I 2 years ago switched from PC to macbookpro, this have for me been the best thing, but it might not be for you.

windows xp and windows 7 are ROCK solid and especially version 7 comes very very closed to os x regarding stability.

but I love mac and os x now.

i have a sony vaio 13" from the old z series. would never change it for a mac. playing live with it and no problems so far. much better screen than mac. i would love to have the new vaio z series with the ssd raid system (no harddrive anymore) and faster than a harddisk. but still a bit expensive.
the only alternative for me would be a lenovo cause of the "waterproof" keyboard and the "no bullshit" classic thinkpad design.
a friend uses acer since years for playing live. no probs. actually my collegues have more probs with their macs ;)
the point of investing in a bit expensive pc laptop can be usb power.
cheap ones tend to make problems with usb and too many controllers.
never a had a problem with that and using 3 midicontrollers and a mouse on my usb and a external powered soundcard on firewire.
techno made me do it
