I would call that pretty good track selection, using a "bad" record in a set as a DJ tool, but wouldn't that make it a "good" song if it works well?

Track selection is most important thing, but good beatmatching should be expected of any DJ who spins in public. Why spin if you suck at it?

There is no "good" or "bad" records, it all depends on the context in which it's presented (within reason of course, there are some truly HORRIBLE records lol)

Even a set full of THE BEST tunes or BOMBS will sound boring, very quickly.

Context is greater than content.

I guess that's why we all love RV so much, not to mention he makes the best records too 8)

the main skills you need are:

track selection
transitioning/mixing..

beatmatching is pointless.. it adds nothing to the mix, it's not something that people hear... we only do it because of a limitation of the technology, which we're slowly overcoming.

if you're mixing on turntables and cdjs it is an essential skill... only because you ahve to do it to be able to do the important stuff like actually mixing a track...

Leaves the debate. Who's God, Hawtin or Villalobos or Tiesto.
Hawtin is more the Antichrist, Villalobos the Tasmanian Devil and Tiesto is a Jesus Poser.
So I guess that just leaves Luciano by default.
