I disagree. I've always really digged his vocally stuff!

It seems to me quite heart felt and often dark sh!t.

Sure he is no Thom Yorke, but MD's voice is always very subltly and well placed in the mix.

I've yet to get my hand on his new LP but have heard the samples and i like what i hear.

I hear it isn't as good as it sounds on the album...but what band is ever as good as an album... how could a guy who actually takes risks loose points in anyone's book.... i think matthew dear is something to strive for... and his music always rocks the dance floor...

i bought that vinyl. i got sick of it when i started buying more brighter sounding records. i thought to myself what the hell was i thinking buying this dark drugged sounding record. i almost threw it like a frisbee i was mad at spending the money on it. it stayed in my bin for a long time never played. then i played it again not too long ago and it blew my mind. strange how a record can you catch you perfectly if its the right time and mood you're in. The first track on side a, Just a Man is my favorite. you really have to crank the volume to hear all of the little details, the quiet atmospheric sounds in the background sound like steam pressure being released from some machinery and makes you want to take a deep breath and let all the tension out of you by saying "ahhhhhh".

^^I know what you mean.
I listen to it very loud on some good headphones for the best effect.

Matt Dear is a producer I have to go out and hear on a decent sound system at least every other month. It's a bummer he's all over Europe for the summer festivals so we won't get to see him much in the US for a while.

... his live set @ Fabric 7th birthday, 21-10-2006 is an excellent mix... a bit dated now but i still listen to it these days.
