in my searches for a sidechain compressor i found this...

http://www.twistedlemon.nl/site/index.p ... &Itemid=32

i'ts a sidechain emulator that actually works pretty well. you'll have to experiment with it before you get comfortable with it.

basically, you load one instance on your kick and bypass the effect

then load another on anything you want ducked. and tweak the effect

its free too! 8)

some people states that you (because of mathematical vs. audio reasons in some way) should keep your bassdrums at 0db. this is more of a commerical-music thing maybe, I don't know.

Sounds like nonsense to me (not to offend anyone). It's very limited way to look at things, IMO. I've heard many tracks with no kicks at all, as well as many with clicks instead of kicks (which is quite common among mnml techno and micro house tracks), which in turn makes me think this rule or better guideline isn't quite applicable.

By and large, it sounds as an artificial limitation of the dynamic range, which is a bad thing for experimental music, however serves well for pumping dance floor stuff with maximized loudness. Again, nothing against it.

Well, at least I don't do it... So "negative" here.

Yeah... sounds like a rule for hip-hoppers to get the maximum boom from car systems... wich would makes sense in a way...

About that kick and bass problem...
I'm currently building a reaktor ensembles that enables you to generate the kick and a bassline using one single oscillator... meaning everything remains in perfect phase. Alongside with fm modulators to get different bass tones...

I'll post it when I'll be done... almost there.

Did you ever consider that it's your overall eq of the track that is making the low end muddy? what kind of room are you mixing in? do you have low ceilings? Maybe you havn't dialed in the room correctly.
