I seriously wouldn't expect minimal acts to make anything near what daft punk or the trance douchebags make. I imagine it tops out around $15,000 a show. Good luck working your way up to that now though. Minimal is waaaaay too much of a niche market to ever support more than 3 or 4 djs or live acts at the highest level. If you want money in this buisness you are going to have to work harder than everybody else you know and live like a hermit for at least 5 years to build up the chops it will take to compete with the Richie Hawtin's of the world. If you want that Daft Punk money you're going to have to produce more than just minimal and you're going to have to develop a unique sound, show and look. If you're smart you won't call yourself a minimal artist or any of that stuff because once people lock you in a genre specific box you're basicly fucked and it becomes hard to work your way out of. The smartest producers make any style of music they can at any given time and they usually stumble across their own unique sound in the process. the only other option is to buy your way into the game but the cats that do that never last long.

Don't people just use monikers to workaround that. I know in the case of djing monikers aren't going to work aswell. But don't people just accept that some djs release different types of sounds. I mean its a very easy thing to understand. I like different types of techno so I like to make different kinds.

Whats this buying themselves into the game thing?

with enough money, you can do everything:

- get a super hot girlfriend even if you're very ugly and the worst asshole on earth;

- or become a very famous musician even if you don't know anything about music and have no talent whatsoever.

;)

Well, I suppose Kelly Osborne springs to mind. But with minimal...?

the influence of the amount of money you have to make things happen exist at every scale! I've seen some minimal djs (even pretty "small" ones) who would like to go to the next level but don't know how to produce, pay somebody else to make tracks for them, then release a record under their name... just because releasing a record is good to get dj bookings! and that's just an example of how to use money in this business...

i just want to say a thing...

I'm 20, I dj, I make music everyday and I spend a lot of time at home in the way to develop my skills...and I do this just because I like it, or better love it...my aim in doing this is just enjoy myself and make it enjoy by many people possible...but I can't see that as a way to make $$$...that's why I wanna study and learn more and more to have a good job.
I like $$$ too, but I can't link both concepts togheter...

lookit,
perhaps the original post was just innocent curiousity.

but this is the most retarded thread in a long time.

there's money to be made out there. but it's not like it used to be - you can't be any random miserable fck and jsut get money handed to you. if it bothers you that there's all these trance bastards making big money, but there's a reason they do well. don't... DO NOT start spouting that sh!t about "commercialism" and "hype". everyone starts somewhere, and in the real world, those are things that are both a side effect and a helper to big success. you don't have to like it, but if you want to talk about money.. it's true. i'm so sick of all you fucking hippies talking about that stuff like it's bad. although I do appreciate and share the frustration of seeing mindless masses subscribing to things just because it's the easiest route (you know, the classic point and call kids the "mtv generation", etc). but then again, that just means SOMEONE did something right and are making even more money :)

being some twit making tracks in your mom's attic isn't going to get you anywhere, if money is your concern. people like daft punk (who are actually great) are more than a couple dweebs playing some tunes. they are performers. AND - they're music was actually good from really early on. they earned a reputation and have staked a claim. this industry is hard fucking work and the people getting the big money have earned it, whether you like it or not.

and to that talk about what you need to do to make big money?
ok, here's a little secret:
no forum fag has the answer.

i don't either, but this will lead you in the right direction - make the music you want to fucking make and ignore all the bullshit. don't try to be anything (aside from constantly becoming better and more skillful) and enjoy what you do. fck mimicking sh!t, fck trying to become the next so-and-so, fck it all. go study daft punk.. they are not a cheesy pop band - get their history and watch how hard they rocked it back in the day while you're at it.
