i've received a demo track from a friend in both .m4a and .mp3@160kbps formats. The difference is striking, the .m4a file is WAY better. I forgot to compare the filesizes, sorry.

I can't be more precise (i think m4a is just a container and the audio stream could be encoded in many formats, including a lossless one) but I hope we'll soon find tracks encoded with sth better than mp3...

If you already have wavs, encode them with FLAC. It's lossless, a ton smaller (not that much more than a 320k mp3), and you can still attach metadata.

I don't thnk flac is supported..

and does a wav file take ages to load up in serato? the first time its loaded up anyway?
