very good responses... guys talking about swapping pc for mac... very boring... and not helpful.

thankyou to everyone else...

I have changed my drivers and my battery settings and it seems to be running well now.

thanks for the heads up about clicking on the clip before triggering... will try that out.

Another thing i've heard is that if you remove the battery whilst playing, this can make a difference with audio dropouts.
Something to do with ACPI something-something.
Mainly applies to DELL laptops i believe.

That answer is so terribly helpful... I have a Windows machine and it runs Ableton Live perfectly in live settings.

The power management settings could be a big factor. What kind of processor is in this laptop? I know my Pentium M chokes on Live when it's set to low-power settings, mostly because it's only running at half the speed. In Windows, if you change the power settings to "Always On" in Control Panel, it forces SpeedStep to run at full clockspeed all the time. That may help you out.
i was just kidding...i have a pc i use too for all the cool free vst etc...sorry

D (or B :)

It could be heat related as well. If your machine isn't in a properly ventilated environment, this could have caused some overheating...

just a guess.

if this has never happened before, i'd be looking for issues relating to the gig situation, rather than suspecting somthing wrong with your set-up.
has it happened at all apart from at this one gig ?
did it work fine when you got home ?
sorry for asking this but could it have been something simple, like a dodgy lead, dodgy input on the mixer, or was it a hot and humid venue etc.
laptops are such delicate things in club environments.
