Yeh some more info pls, i really strugle to get the texture right.....

Edit* imo its best used as a send effct mixed over the white noise...

just tried the 'EVOC FB' filter in logic with the 'dark shift' preset - it definitely softens the white noise down better than a low-pass... (a start)

how long does it take some of you to make a whole track? ;)


personally, i prefer some grit, so i'll use a lower bit rate sample.

there's no right or wrong way though - sampled or synthesized - whatever works for you.

40 hours sometimes a track. I like to spend a lot of time with a song and tweak and listen... it takes time.

Adjusting the bit rate is a fantastic effect for snares and high hats alike... i use a plugin on top of the shakers sometimes to achieve this.

In terms of filters a parametric eq works fine.

I drop the bitrate on alot of stuff. Sounds good.

something like an Emax works for me. or for a VSTi, there's a plug in sampler called Morgana that runs samples at 8 bit and has nice analog modeled filters. yeah, i agree, lower bit rates are good for snares and such too.
