Man how depressing for techno this crap is.
I think it fits the definition of sterile.
1 a: failing to bear or incapable of producing fruit or spores b: failing to produce or incapable of producing offspring <a> c: incapable of germinating <sterile> of a flower : neither perfect nor pistillate2 a: unproductive of vegetation <a> b: free from living organisms and especially microorganisms <a> c: lacking in stimulating emotional or intellectual quality : lifeless <a>
At least we can hope that this whole thing appeals to no one and that it won't be capable of producing any fruit. Like little soulless Minus stormtroopers running amok swiping their minimal micro-chip card up their own asses hoping that some cool beats pop out.
Contakt (Minus where are you going?)

WHAT EXACTLY is depressing for u ?attentat wrote:Man how depressing for techno this crap is.
u kids take this way to serious ...
Re: Cold and Sterile
Well, the fact that it's being promoted as some new way to interact with artists. When really you are just paying Minus money to be able to tell people that you are part of something that is really just an advertisement for all the companies that are supporting it. If you read the rules of winning the contest it says that Minus can use you in promotional material with out you getting compensated. This seems a little scrupulous.jackyx wrote:WHAT EXACTLY is depressing for u ?attentat wrote:Man how depressing for techno this crap is.

It tries to make it seem like it will somehow breakdown the barriers between artist and patron/consumer. How do you break down the barriers if the member just goes and swipes their card through some abstract, unemotional, LED covered box? Also,it makes hipster elitist bs more predominate in the scene. It's not inclusive and open but closed and narrow in scope. Only people with money can have access. I think this is just not good energy for the scene. We all ready hear so much music that sounds the same and so much showboating with who has the coolest scarf that we don't need this super hero stuff to ad to the hipster coolness that has all ready polluted the scene. I could go on for a while about this but i will stop here.
One more thing actually, I do take this seriously because I am involved in the scene on a level of trying to support myself with it as a producer, promoter and DJ. I have been doing this stuff for 12 years and I do it because I love it and I will all ways do it because I love it. Don't get me wrong I would like to make more money at what I do and be able to more comfortably support myself from my passions, but I also would never want to create some marketing campaign aimed at convincing people that by giving me $45 USD a year they will be helping to foster some new form of communication. People all ready have to pay to have there voice heard in this world so if the Minus team really wants to create new forms they could start first by letting everyone have access to their new technologies. The website claims that technology should be utilized to bring us "new, closer forms of communication." well, ok prove it. This is just about money in my eyes. And I know all the artists on here want to get paid to be artists, myself included. I think the reality though is that in Capitalist, Communist and Socialist economies all operating under some form of state/centralized government artists will never be supported unless your work reinforces the ideas beholden to those ideas. ok. that's exactly what's depressing. ok, thats better.
its most likely a way for them to ensure that the money keeps coming in, a way of capitalising on their success and popularity. mp3s and downloads etc have effect sales for most labels, it was only a matter of time before they looked into modes of business that extracted maximun return from popularity.
minus is pretty much a brand/business, releasing resonable to excellent records. its very hard for labels these days, they got get paid etc. and i think the photos are really obviously humourous. if people cant see that, i dont know what else to say.

the american way - branding, marketing, then advertise till brainwash the public with your (shitty) brand.
the european way - create a solid product, whatever it takes, a unique product that you own with your hands but mostly with your head. then if its good it will sell by itself.
no offence to those here who are american, but thats the way it is.
also theres a good saying that goes: PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH. so in that relation:
"Mr. Hawtin i know you are reading this so pls. tell me - If you seriously believe that what you do is the future and is the true way to go about things (doing everything digitally that is), then why the fck do you keep releasing vinyl with your label?"
let alone that this Hawtin shmuck doesnt even produce seriously for a very long time now already..... it all sounds like big hypocricy to me.

oh right, parties and drinks are normally free. at their price, records are completely elitist with your logic. What inanimate objects have soul?attentat wrote: Well, the fact that it's being promoted as some new way to interact with artists. I dont understand why anyone not living in the cities to be toured cares about this or any touring concept. All this talk about scene is bullshit because the ones that matter most are the ones where you live. Don't buy the card, don't go to the party, ans support your local stuff if this sh!t really matters so much.
