He can't blame others without blaming himself.

i've said this before, but i think the detroit guys are very touchy about their place and legacy because it is increasingly all they got. nice records still come out of detroit, but nothing particularly 'new'. as innovators, they've run they course.

yes, techno would not be techno without detroit, but that does not mean detroit fathered or mothered techno. it played an important part, but to say that it is only about detroit is reductionist in the extreme.

this argument has been had many times before, and there will be plenty more rounds, but i really dont see how you can say with a straight face that detroit (or any place/person/label for that matter) 'invented' or 'created' techno. it is much much more complex and interesting than that...

I think we have all stirred away from the original rant which talks of crap music taking over the house scene, big time! I agree and can really sympathise with Sneak, I mean, can you imagine if a 101 artists like Booka Shade take over the mnml scene and people start calling it minimal techno. However, is disgree with his method because if crap is taking over then Sneak and his "real" house music friends should be setting the trends by creating really good music.

I have been listening to music called minimal since the early/mid 90s and from my point of view this is what has happened already. As for music having a origin every music style started in some specific place Jazz in New Orleans, Blues in the Mississippi Delta, Techno in Detroit, House in Chicago, Hip Hop in New York, Reggae, Dance Hall, and Ska from Kingston Jamaica, Those are plenty of examples now music travels fast and after a new sound is invented or discovered anyone can make any style but the ORIGIN only comes once and in one place... Many parts or influences may contribute to the style but it is still new and is not the parts but the sum of the parts. Now people may not like the early form of this music just like a rock fan who listens to Death Metal would not like Elvis but that does not remove the fact that they were innovators who built what you now stand on.
Where where where am I? Who who am I?
