you simply must have seperate channels for each sound, or whats the point of buying an analogue mixer.

just a thought
I can only second that. you never have too many channels, expecially if you go hardware... even more if you have hardware with lots of dedicated outputs like the serious drum machines.

I'd say get as many channels as you can too. But spend some time, thinking about how you want to work too, and consider if you're going to expand the hardware side of your studio, or just want a way to mix OTB.

That said, also consider the space you have at your disposal, a mixer is pretty big :)

Ok chaps, I returned the RME, and was about to buy the ZED16 but they didn't have it in.
I can get it online instead.
Considering I have never mixed OTB, I think 16 channels will be fine for a long time.
Please correct me of I am wrong, but it seems to me like you can have more channels for more money, or have more channels for less money and comprimise the quality.
As we know money doesn't grow on trees, and the urge to get that extra feature and pay another 100€ increment is quite annoying, but also triggers that addictive, gear hungry sequence in us that says, 'get it, get it, it will be worth it.'
So you look at that option then realise that for an extra 100€ you could have this extra option also, an so on.
It never stops. ARRRGH!

Sooooooo the ZEDR16. I think I will bite the bullet.

Any more thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Just get it ;). You can always return it if you're not satisfied with it.
