24 bit wavs were mentioned earlier. every wav i've ever bought is 16 bit. i realize that you can adjust this when ripping data from a CD, but am i missing something within the wav marketplace?
you want to talk about even less of a discernible difference its 24 vs 16 bit. now we're just getting geeky in a "my file is better than yours" weightless debate, if you ask me.

unless its all being recorded as 24 and played directly from that wav file, burning anything to cd automatically brings it back down to 16 bit. its like people that try to upconvert an mp3 back to a wav to burn on cd and play - pointless.

miniKAT wrote:So would u say its easy to tell the difference between a 192 and 320?

On a club system?

On a home system?

Or is the loss in quality minor?
the difference between 192 and 320 is obvious on almost any system.
I dont know, I mean, would u be like "oh sht, damn, did u hear that? he just mixed a 192 mp3 with a 320."

I mean isnt that being a bit nit-picky?

Is it gonna kill the mix or the atmosphere? I mean it aint like its gonna sound like u mixed a tape in
It's probably not going to kill the atmosphere at a club, as half the people probably don't know anything about what they hear and the other half are out of their minds. But I think even on a subpar sound system, the people who have worked with these files would more likely be able to tell than not... Personally, if it's just mp3s we're talking about, I would be very reluctant to DJ with anything below 320. Most serious DJs I know feel similarly.
Well if I ever become a serious DJ I'll keep that in mind, for now I'll play a 192 every now and then in hopes that the sickness of the track will hide the sub-par quality of my shameful 192 encoded mp3.

According to ur analysis of the current club goers, there shouldnt be anyone who would notice anyway.

Except maybe for:

192's are pretty flat and poorly defined, and their rolloff seems to come fairly early. they do sound quite a bit different, but you can make it by cranking the gain and eq's on the mixer a lot, which doesn't exactly make them sound better.

but since people only freak out for basslines anyway, who cares...
