what style?
prettier listening or early Detroit-inspired type things (B12, old Autechre, or ambient even....FAX, etc), or the faster glitched-out newer "IDM" (Squarepusher, new Autechre, newer Warp recs stuff)?
looking for something aphex twin - drukqs like...

beautiful listening but it should be really dark and weird

P.S: just listened to some Tim Exile stuff and didn't really like it at all..
If you're searching something drukqs like check the new one from Koolmorf Widesen called "Melodies fork now". I think it's an amazing album, from electroacoustic to drill n bass/acid

I have to admit that I have never had a fully formed perception of what IDM really is. Its such a broad stroke that its a difficult genre to fathom. So many things seem to fit into it. What is IDM today compared to IDM in the 90's? I don't know... its just kind of out there and a little different.

I don't hear something and go.. oh, thats a good IDM track. Maybe that is a good quality eh?

I would rather call IDM, INDM (intelligent non-dance music).

Electronic music without the groove, but with the melancholy, the nerds, the epic stories?

Some artistes are good at liking both, like Anders Ilar.

I think it was born thanks to the desire to make a more "intelligent" techno(or, well, as I think dance music can sound intelligent, let's say "another kind of intelligence"). That's why in the beginning, the boundaries between techno and what we call IDM were thin (The Black Dog, Luke Slater's 7th Plain...).

Then, other nerds began to create home listening melancholy with machines, the "dance" beat was isolated, and masterpieces were born.

Just my very personal view about "IDM". ;)

Guys over at the IDM forums have a netlabel and release their forum members' music via competition. Good stuff.
