Out west is great, each scene has its own personality... be in Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, all have healthy scenes... very down to earth. Then there is the mighty Los Angeles... ridiculously active on all levels international and local.

Here in San Diego we don't have much at all, but we have a loyal crowd of heads that support whatever does happen to be going on.

for every new law that is put in place - is a new loophole is available..

the issue here in the states mostly from my perspective is people are in such a hurry to (throw) a party.. they often skip the most important step to weave the loophole..

thus creating issues... however like the entire planet at the moment.. we are all in a huge transitional period.. kinda basis to be talking/comparing rave parties during such a difficult time in history..

very good points about clubs, drinking age ect.... the US has many new clubs and venues that open up.. they seem to be very personal, dont tend to make lots of money (the ones that allow specific techno parties) but also don't seem to last long ...vs. the bigger venues and more relaxed parties/culture of europe.

both situations at the right time can be absolutely amazing.

The cost of DJs is a lot also, that to break even is tough.

Not exactly, if you read back you'll see I was commenting on Hutch's post on the expensive booking costs to get eu artists to the states.

Der geile Ami wrote:Just like in europe, the US had some sketchy rave promoters in its bigger scenes. You can only steal from the crowds enough times before people get turned off.
In the mid-late 1990's, right as the U.S. rave scene was getting good, so many sketchy promoters set up shop in every city.
They had HUGE flyers full of the worst lineups. There would be maybe one "big name" and the rest were DJs who might be able to put two records together if they got lucky.
It scared away a lot of people, and left mostly just the kids who are willing to put up with bad music just to score some drugs.
You can thank these people for the RAVE act. :x
Plus, in the U.S. dance music gets very dated stereotypical images associated with it in popular media. They all think we run around with candy necklaces, shoving pills and puking on our furry pants.
This is another reason why shady promoters have no trouble duping well-intentioned kids into nights of hardstyle and hard drugs, because that's what's on TV.

You can definitely consider the good stuff "underground" over here.
