don't disagree with anything you said but this... Minimal has been around long before electronic music. But even as electronic music it existed much earlier.... "Robert Hood, minimal nation" Studio 1, Mike Ink.. Even Hawtin's first albums as a solo producer back in the 90s. But if you are saying that they took the idea and ran with it then sure thing.
word!
and real minimal music comes from people like steve reich, avo pärt, phillip glas, moondog etc.
and electronic minimal music can range from clicks n cuts (this was the first word in the 90s for whats "electronic minimal") to detroit influences, but its mostly the beats and klicks, its the transparency.
its definitly not a minus thing, much people before are working on electronic minimal music in the 90s.
see also the first works for minimal house music on raw elements from steve bug.
and dont forget all the abstract underground productions up from the 80s.
and people mixing up the words "popular" and "definition". minus dont make the definition of minimal music, they are _only_ popular, thats it.
you also can see avandgarde music as post modern/post minimal music.
so, whats (electronic) minimal music today:
its electronic music, but electronic music has no specific face, only characters.
and there is no real definition, because the people make the definition of it.
klick klack, clicks n cuts, abstract, experimental, clubsounds whatever
