think most of these have been mentioned already, but in no particular order...

Pi (esp the use of drill and bass in the background)
The big lebowski (donnie, shut the fk up)
Star Wars : Empire Strike Back (though all star wars is good, inc the clone wars cartoon series)
Alien & Aliens (after that they got a bit bent)
Ronin (whats in that f'kin case!!?)
Akira (TETSUOOOOOOOOO!!!)
Ghost in The Shell 1 & 2
Donnie Darko
American Psycho (though the book is better Easton Ellis makes you feel like you're going mad... which reminds me, I have to return some video tapes  ), The Machinist and in fact pretty much anything with Bale in it including Empire of the Sun
Memento

Generally like any film that is a bit odd quirky and makes you think, or that you have to watch twice before you really get it, or that has lots of things blowing up and gets away wit it witout having a cheesy storyline :)

Yeah, keep meaning to watch that but haven't got round to it yet...

I like films but I hate being disappointed by one and feeling like I'be wasted a couple hours of my life, so tend to go on recommendations, and wait until I've heard about something from 2/3 people...

My sis is a bit of a film junkie though and she's currently got a part time job at blockbuster and gets 7 free films a week, so I may have to get her to get it for me :)

forgot one, 'taxi driver' - that old one from 70'ies (I think) ... I really like the atmosphere and the character that a _very_ young Robert DeNiro plays, can't say I ever seen a good movie with DeNiro since that one.

EDIT: ....and I recall seeing Akira Kurosawa's "Dreams" on a AMT trip, I remember that it was great - but not much except for that.

he's great in the deer hunter....you really get dragged down into his character....similar to the way he plays Travis Bickle.....i know what you mean tho, he's done a few shockers in his time.
