[TSULTRA] Yann Tiersen & Jay Haze - Comptine d'un autre
Nice! Tiersen really is an absolute master of melody, so there's no reason to throw much else in there accept a beat. La Valse is my favourite piece of his & that got crucified on the Amelie On Ice EP (the additional notes are completely out of key with the original melody). If it ain't broke don't fix it!
out of curiosity....vermi wrote:not even close to the original track by yann tiersen.
feel jay could have put some more effort behind this, because for me it just sounds like he's only put on a beat, and "nothing" else.
how could it sound "not even close" to the original if all i did was put a beat and "nothing else" ?
wouldnt that mean it sounds exactly like the original ?

If I'm to give an opinion to Jay's version of the track, well, dont know if it'd be my thing or not, would like to hear it out. Not too bothered on how much/how less Jay haze's done to rework the original....sometimes simple things work as well as ultra produced ones

Re: [TSULTRA] Yann Tiersen & Jay Haze - Comptine d'un au
This write up sounds so self defensive.. maybe its me?Contexterrior wrote:preview audio and read feature at Ibiza Voice
Once again, TuningSpork Records ventures away from its trademark funky
house in exchange for something a little more unexpected. Last summer,
the label issued "Free Your Mind" (TSEXTRA), a Baleraric groove crafted by
Jay Haze and Ricardo Villalobos. Now comes another non-sequitur:
"Comptine d'un autre été: l'après-midi” (TSULTRA), Mr. Tiersen’s piano
composition reconstructed for the dancefloor by Jay.
French composer Yann Tiersen has a minimalist approach that many
electronic producers could learn from. His piece (the title of which roughly
means “Nursery rhyme of another summer: the afternoon”) provides the
basis for this melancholy track. DJs addicted to hyperbolic effects plugins
might hesitate to play this – but those who appreciate subtlety will be
rewarded here. Tiersen’s original composition is tastefully manipulated into
a track that makes sense in a club context, yet sets itself apart from the
usual techno/house fare, providing a rare introspective moment on the
dancefloor.
And it might be worth mentioning: if you play this track and the floor
doesn’t fill up with ladies, then it probably means you’re DJing at a gay
club. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

I understand it as its better and different and if you are not down, you are the problem
Going with the sample, I'm not feeling this one. I do understand the approach jay took on this though. And I personally dont buy into the "you have to hear it in the club" argument.
i also did a remix of this
but its unauthorized
so i put a free version online creative commons etc

just to let you know, you cant put something up for creative commons "etc." if you don't own the rights to the material(or have explicit permission to do so).apanell wrote:i also did a remix of this
