not really a metal guy other than some classic early 70s stuff. but I do like old punk like Buzzcocks, Misfits, Smiths, Clash, Sex Pistols, etc. So, in a similar way I understand.

the best heavy metal band around is church of misery from japan. all their songs are about serial killers but they have such a classic and cool sound !

the great stuff starts at 1.20!

church of misery sound ok, it's blues schemes played loud and noisy... get better noisrecokers like unsane: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJd0fvUzmns (nice video to watch, btw) ;)
now that's noise blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqF1nyjC ... re=related

and here are my absolute favourites neurosis (not necessarily metal):

saw them live four times - and every single time i was superstunned afterwards... the world could've collapsed and i wouldn't have minded. to understand their intensity you _have_ to experience them at a concert.

Only really in to Mike Patton stuff like Mr Bungle, Faith No More and Fantomas. Like a bit of Primus too. I'm more of a prog rock fan, Frank Zappa is the king IMO.

I really like the black dahlia murder. They may not be the most technically skilled metal band but I love the way their songs are composed.

i grew up on metal, then started getting into punk rock, then hardcore (punk)... still thoroughly enjoy it all, but electronica takes the cake now.

a few bands who have influenced me:

Anthrax
Iron Maiden
Suicidal Tendencies
Ramones
Agnostic Front

still go to punk and H/C gigs as i guess i can never turn my back on rock
