how to tell whats wrong with broken gear

Post by 532nm »

maybe some solder-heads could help me out. i just bought an old korg dvp-1 vocoder that doesnt work ($48 ebay gamble so wtf)

When i turn it on, sometimes the led's light solid, sometime the display goes crazy, sometimes nothing happens at all.

i've looked over the circuit boards and they look clean. (no burnt spots)

my question is: does this sound like a bad chip or could some other blown componet or short cause this behaviour?

how can you tell if a chip is fried, or if something else is blown?

thanks a million.

have you consider parhaps to find someone who knows how to repair audio gear? maybe even send it to korg for inspection.

I had a juno-2 that acted in a similar way, I had to replace the battery... have you checked that already?

^korg would tell me to get bent. they dont service discontinued gear.

i thought about sending it out, but that could be a nightmare too, $100+ later and i'm close to buying another that works. :?

i'll try the battery.

thx

i've had gear fixed at the local music shop before. despite the fact that they are some rockers and they don't know sht about good gear for electronic music they fixed it right up. hrmmmmm a mixer i think. about to take this tube amp to get fixed next.
