Where do you see minimal in 5 years? Is minimal going to fade out like speed garage, or will the big record companies get a taste of its genius and decide to implement minimal in mainstream music.. Basically what they did to Electro (everything from the Infidels to Madonna to the bullshit Electro house in the clubs)
I believe this will happen to some extent. we are going to see more and more club friendly minimal club productions (eg Doppelwipper) and more of a class variation in the types of minimal. Such as Minimal-Techno, Minimal-House, Minimal-Electro, Minimal-trance????? Minimal record stores?
What do you guys think?
Whats the future of minimal is going to bring??

i think there are already minimalist elements that broke into mainstream. lot's of hip hop productions are very minimal, "drop it like it's hot" or "my humps" for example.
i think minimal will go a bit the same way like DnB. Really big in the underground and clubbing scene, alway just a step from breaking into mainstream. but it will never really get to the pub or beer tents like disco house or tiesto-trance
or maybe i just wish it would be like that.

Replacing "minimal" with "intelligent" didn't work... people would never relate to anything labelled "intelligent"... let's just face it.
Mainstream means people. People like color and gloss and sweat and sex and blood... preferably in the same picture, as the average attention span is decreasing. They sure don't like a site like this one for instance... black grey and white. Very coherent for us. But utterly boring for for the light-addicted world.
Give 'em that good old fucking brainlness diva/thug bubblegummish bullshit
It's actually as colorful/tasteful as the puke of a kid who had too much candy.
Today's Icons are history's stupidest asses. Minimal aesthetics in five years?
Who knows... maybe the record industry will crash and we'll see the situation improving.

ame isn't a minimal act whatsoever. just check the label under which they operate.Rochey wrote:think your right in parts
defected releasing rej is one example of it becoming more commercialised
- i kinda wish it stayed where it was during the 90's. underground is perfect for it..it's not the kind of music you can play to just anyone or anywhere. yet, what the minus crew is doing is fantastic, but the ammount of spreading could bring the music to a collapse at some point just because of the density. on the other hand..if you want to put minimal techno closer to more audience why not combine it with elektro..i think it's a perfect match. minimal and elektro go hand in hand. just for the end..for me the top of minimal techno what i know was richie's deck's, efx & 909. it was a perfect ballance between techno and minimal.

i quite like the idea of replacing "minimal" with "intelligent". but the question is: is some music more intelligent than other? what would justify minimal techno/house to be labeld intelligent?

could you manage to explain what would be so intelligent in minimal? i think it's a silly clasification made out of elitist listeners.
