you can actually get great fluid basslines by downtuning a vocoded vocal by an octave. There's my top tip...

i recommend using native instruments vokator...
itttt's great!

dont use vocoder much though... i dont work with vocals but vocal fx's mostly, and i really dont need vocoder on them...
have been using it on percs...but not anymore...
+ it's really cpu hungry
