interesting dub chord / stab sounds...

thx for posting that link !DeeperDub wrote:some new tutorial videos can be found on ableton's blog:

those are actually great tutorials.
the guy goes hyperfast, and there's no voice-over explaining why he does what, plus he goes back and forth many times (he's kind of puzzled about what he wants to do next some times)
but the result is really good.
anybody else had a look at these ?
you should !

No, I didn't notice that post. I'll take a look in a minute, always interesting to see how other people do stuff.
On another note, I'm really liking the effect of dub chords made with a synth with 2 filters. I know Reasons Thor can do this but I'm using Surge VST and you can set an lfo to morph between the two filters. So I might have say a LP filter and a BP filter and create a rhythm via the LFO modulating between the two filters. There's a slider which moves between filter 1 and filter 2 so you can have it do a very subtle effect or total LP to BP ( or whatever )

that's actually a technique used in that tutorial as well.AK wrote:No, I didn't notice that post. I'll take a look in a minute, always interesting to see how other people do stuff.

at first I wondered why the guy resampled Operator and then used Sampler, instead of just continuing with Operator, but it's because Sampler has morphing filters plus 3 LFO's which he uses a lot.
Re: interesting dub chord / stab sounds...
I'm aware I'm not the first to say this here.. but I think I've missed it in this thread.
ANYTHING can become a dubchord with a resonator.
take a microphone and record stuff. tune your resonator. magic.
but I'm on with the rest of you... after we've nailed the timbre.. what other tricks are there for keeping that DEEEEEEEP headspace?
maybe I'm just tooo sober

Re: interesting dub chord / stab sounds...
What do you call those 'clangy snares' you hear a lot of in Reggae? You often hear drum fills performed on them, anyone know what I'm on about and if they are actually snares or something else?

I know what you mean, but I wouldn't know have they're made. sorry.AK wrote:What do you call those 'clangy snares' you hear a lot of in Reggae? You often hear drum fills performed on them, anyone know what I'm on about and if they are actually snares or something else?
