It's easier to have a fat synthesizer than to try to fatten a thin sounding bassline. MUCH easier.

you probably want to think about doing a few layers..

or have a few osc's going at same time..

or make a little chord out of your patch.

THEN - you'll be in the best place to begin.

Lately, most of my basslines are a sine or triangle into wave folder with fairly gentle settings and finally a lowpass filter to tweak it just right. No other processing.

What makes a bass line fat is how it sits in the mix and room in the frequency range it occupies to stand out. For instance, if your bassline has some subtle upper harmonics that make it sound fat, it's critical that the other elements in your track let those shine through.

Another thing that has been discussed at lengths on this forum is tuning your bass to your kick drum (and the rest of the track for that matter). If your kick and bass aren't tuned to each other, it's probably going to sound shitty and thin. I can't believe all the years that went by without me doing this. It changed the low end on my tunes immediately.

what you mean exactly with "tune to each other"...does this mean for example,my bass is at G,then my kick has to hit on G too??

@mono.. Think he means in the same Key.

Or at least in something that sounds somewhat pleasing to the ear.

Chords from bass? Dude this is just wrong before it begun.....c'mon man!

To the OP, buy an SH-101 - happy bass days! Filled my gap and satisfied me....
