how many people here have actually mixed with a sub? because a lot of the answers here are different to my personal experience. Subs are a useful mixing tool, there wouldn't be so many on the market if they made your music worse.

I couldn't live without my sub. But the thing is that after having used it for so long, I realize how it can distract your ears when you're writing a track.

With that being said, I don't think they're necessary, but I definitely think anyone who is serious about making music should have one. Like I said before, you should only turn the sub up occasionally just to get a feel for the low end of your mix.

Steevio or whoever has a 8'' speaker like the mackies, can you hear rightly this basses?
Cause i hear them just a bit, and sounds not so big as my spectrum analyzer say, and as they really are..tryin to produce those are quite hard with dynaudios bm5a.

I sometimes crank my sub up way up and check the bass from upstairs. It's a good way to make sure the low end maintains its definition.

My 8" monitors (HS80m) are pretty much accurate down to 40hz (they go lower than that but very attenuated)
